Taking Shape

The fish pond is finally taking shape. The main pond is defined and the filter area has been started.

The entire structure is 8′ x 8′ outside.┬áNext you must determine how much room you need for the settlement tank, the bio- filter and then upper pond. Deduct this from the overall size. Using the 32 gallon Rubbermaid brute, we went 30″ x 27″, this left 30″ x 28″ for the upper pond. After that, the main pond figured to be 7″-5″ x 4″-7.5″. These are inside dimensions.

A Florida Gopher turtle stopped by to check out the progress. Gopher turtles are a protected species in Florida. They cruise through the yard all the time.

Using a 3/8 drill, simply mark the bit at 9″ with duct tape. Every other coarse must be drilled and nailed. Mark all your nails so that you do not drill into the previous ones since they will overlap by one course.
